The discount card may be used in any branch of Scrivens, Ronald Brown, Melson Wingate, OC Weathersbee, Eyecheck, and Tillett Adams Opticians.

Discounts apply to the employee AND their family. Being part of the Employee Discount Scheme costs your company nothing – only the time it takes to place a poster on your staff notice-board and issue the discount cards. To help you promote the scheme to your staff further, we can supply additional posters, produce inserts to be enclosed with your staff payslips, or even create a banner for your website.



VDU Users
Employees who regularly use a VDU as part of their work are entitled to have regular eye examinations paid for by their employer under European Health and Safety Law.  The employer is also obliged to pay for a pair of basic glasses if they are specifically and exclusively for VDU use.

Scrivens’ VDU Eye Examinations Service

All VDU users will receive a full sight test giving full consideration to their occupational needs and the appropriate visual standards

A special VDU report form will be issued to the Company specifying whether a correction is required specifically for VDU use

For this service, we charge a Corporate VDU fee of £19.50, reflecting a 25% discount off our normal eye examination rate, which is currently £26.00

Scrivens’ VDU Spectacle Service

Only a small proportion of VDU users receiving a full eye examination will require correction specifically for VDU use.  If the spectacles are used for any other purpose, the employer is not obliged to bear the cost

“Spectacles that are specifically for VDU use” are generally a single vision correction.  The cost of spectacles starts at an inclusive price of £49 for standard single vision lenses and a frame

Should employees wish to choose from our full range of frames and lenses, they are free to do so.  Any additional cost incurred above £49 will be payable by the individual employee, who would benefit from a 10% discount off the normal retail price of this additional payment

Invoicing Arrangements
We can arrange for the branch to invoice you direct on a monthly basis for all spectacles and eye examination fees.



Safety Glasses
Scrivens offers a range of industrial frame styles which can be glazed with lenses made from standard CR-39 plastic, toughened glass or polycarbonate, depending on the degree of impact resistance required.

Lenses made from standard CR-39 plastic and toughened glass satisfy British Standard BS EN 166 Grade 1. However, polycarbonate lenses are the only lenses capable of satisfying British Standard BS EN Grade 2.
